Coin Highlights:

In 1893, the Carson City Mint was in its final year of operation. The purpose-built mint was opened in 1870 to refine local silver from across Nevada into American currency. In addition to producing Morgan Silver Dollars, the Carson City Mint struck all denominations of the US Eagle Series. In 1893, it released just 60,000 coins in the $5 Liberty Half Eagle Series, a far cry from the more than 1.5 million issued by the Philadelphia Mint.
Obverse imagery on the 1893 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin includes the famous Liberty Head bust. This left-profile relief includes a coronet crown and was designed in 1838 by Christian Gobrecht for the coins of the US Eagle Series.
Reverse designs on 1893-CC Pre-33 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagles feature the heraldic eagle. Here, the bald eagle sits in front-facing relief with the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace. You will also notice the banner with IN GOD WE TRUST engraved over the eagle’s head. This was added to the coins in 1866.
