The Carson City Mint had one of the most unique histories in producing the Morgan Silver Dollar. When the coin was introduced in 1878, the Carson City Mint was one of the first three branch mints to strike the coin that year. Over time, it would go on to strike the coin in just 13 of the 28 years Morgan Dollars were produced. Today, 1891-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The United States Mint opened the Carson City Mint in 1870 to leverage the local silver mines and lodes discovered in the American West, particularly in Nevada. The Carson City Mint contributed to Morgan Dollar production by striking the coins from 1878 to 1885. Following a hiatus in production from 1886 to 1888, the Carson City Mint returned to coining Morgan Dollars from 1889 to 1893 before closing permanently.
All of these 1891-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins come with a protective flip. Multiples will ship in plastic tubes of 20 coins, if available. All of the coins in this listing are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
On the obverse of the 1891-CC Morgan Dollar Coin is a bust of Lady Liberty. This left-profile relief of Liberty shows her head with a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet crown. This side of the coin includes a ring of 13 stars honoring the original American Colonies.
The reverse of 1891-CC Morgan Silver Dollars comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This image of the eagle was created by George T. Morgan and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread. The eagle’s talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
