The Philadelphia Mint again the lead the way in striking the coins by issuing its highest figure of the decade 1880-1889. Now, certified 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
In total, the Philadelphia Mint issued more than 152 million coins in the decade of 1880 to 1889. Mintage figures climbed each year during this decade, with the exception of 1881 and 1888. The 1889 issue from Philadelphia was the highest single issue from any branch mint in the 1880s with 21.726 million coins.
Other branch mints issuing Morgan Silver Dollars in 1889 included the San Francisco Mint, New Orleans Mint, and the Carson City Mint. The latter was returning after a three-year hiatus from 1886 to 1888 and issued just 350,000 coins.
Obverse design elements on the 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar include a left-profile bust of Liberty. The image of Liberty was created by George T. Morgan and shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair.
Reverse visuals on 1889 Morgan Dollar Coins include the heraldic eagle. Also designed by Morgan, this visual shows a bald eagle in front-facing relief with wings spread wide as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
These 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are in Mint State 63 condition. Coins with this grade showcase impaired mint luster with numerous small contact marks and a few, scattered heavy marks. Small hairlines are also possible with detracting scuffs also possible.
