The Morgan Silver Dollar was one of America’s most beloved coins. Introduced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar was the second widely circulated US silver dollar design and the last one to enjoy broad circulation and use across the country. Today, certified 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
George T. Morgan was successful in creating the design of the new US silver dollar introduced in 1878. After a five-year hiatus, the Morgan Silver Dollar replaced the Seated Liberty Silver Dollar and experienced a 28-year run in production, with 27 of those years coming consecutively from 1878 to 1904.
All of these 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in Mint State 64 condition from the NGC. Coins with this grade have average mint luster for the date, several small contact marks in groups, and one or two moderate marks present as well. It is also possible for one or two small patches of hairlines to show on the field of the coins.
On the obverse of 1888 Morgan Dollars, you will find a left-profile relief of Lady Liberty. This bust of Liberty was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and depicts Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a laurel wreath and coronet crown in her hair. The field includes a date mark and 13 stars.
The reverse side of the 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Also designed by Morgan, this version of the heraldic eagle features the American bald eagle in front-facing relief as it spreads its wings and clutches both the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
