In preparation for the design, engraver George T. Morgan had a teacher named Anna Willess Williams serve as the model for Liberty’s face. In addition to this portrait, you also see inscriptions on the obverse reading E Pluribus Unum, 1887.
The reverse side of 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins features a front-facing heraldic eagle motif. This bald eagle design was also created by George T. Morgan, who included the iconic arrows and olive branch in the bird’s talons. Reverse inscriptions read United States of America, In God We Trust, One Dollar.
