The Morgan Silver Dollar, created by George T. Morgan, was introduced by the United States Mint in 1878 and continued to be minted annually until 1904, with its last production in 1921. This coin was in circulation during significant periods of American history, from the Reconstruction Era to the Gilded Age and the early 20th century, through the Roaring 20s. Now, 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse side of the 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar features a left-profile relief of Lady Liberty. It is said that Morgan used Anna Willes Williams as a reference for this portrayal. Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, topped with a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars.
On the reverse side, the 1886 Morgan Dollar Coin displays a heraldic eagle. Morgan’s version does not feature a national shield but shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief, with its wings spread and talons grasping both the arrows of war and an olive branch of peace.
The 1886 release of Morgan Dollars featured some of the highest mintages in the program’s distinguished history. The Philadelphia Mint struck more than 19.96 million coins, followed by 10.71 million coins at the New Orleans Mint and just 750,000 coins at the San Francisco Mint. Notably, 1886 was the first year in the history of the Morgan Dollar in which the Carson City Mint did not strike any coins.
These 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins come securely packaged in a protective plastic flip. For larger orders, coins will be provided in tubes of 20 coins if available. All items listed are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Morgan Dollars feature 90% silver with 10% copper.
