Morgan Silver Dollars were produced by the United States Mint from 1878 until 1904, with a final one-time release in 1921 as silver dollar coining was renewed after World War I. In the 1880s, production was at some of its highest average levels. Today, 1886 Morgan Silver Dollars in certified condition are available online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Morgan Silver Dollars were issued by three mints in 1886. The Philadelphia Mint issued the greatest number of coins, by far, with a total mintage of 19.963 million coins. The New Orleans Mint issued a total of 10.710 million coins and the San Francisco Mint struck just 750,000 coins. Notably, 1886 was the first time, to date, that the Carson City Mint did not issue coins in this series.
All of these 1886 Morgan Silver Dollars are available in certified condition. Mint State 65 coins have high-quality luster with a few small, scattered contact marks or two larger marks. One or two small patches of hairlines are also available.
On the obverse of 1886 Morgan Dollars, you will find the left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Designed by George T. Morgan, this image shows Liberty with a Phrygian cap on her head, as well as a laurel wreath and a coronet crown.
The reverse side of the 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. Also designed by Morgan, this visual shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in her talons.
