The Morgan Silver Dollar was issued by five branch mints of the US Mint during its 28-year history. One of the more memorable mints to issue the coins was the Carson City Mint, a purpose-built western branch of the US Mint that issued Morgan Dollars for 13 years. Each of the 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available here come in MS63 condition. Coins with this grade exhibit a slightly impaired mint luster with numerous small contact marks, a few scattered marks that may be heavier, and small hairlines visible without magnification.
The Carson City Mint was established in 1863 during the height of the Nevada silver rush. It was built in Carson City, the capital of Nevada, to process the vast amounts of silver and gold being discovered in the nearby Comstock Lode. The mint was part of the United States Mint system and operated as a branch mint.
The obverse side of the 1884 Morgan Silver Dollar comes with a portrait of Liberty from George T. Morgan. This image features Liberty’s head in left-profile relief with a coronet crown and a laurel wreath on her head.
On the reverse field of 1884-CC Morgan Dollars, you will find Morgan’s version of the heraldic eagle. This version includes the front-facing bald eagle with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace, but lacks a US national shield.
