Established in 1870, the Carson City Mint was created to process the massive silver and gold discoveries from Nevada’s Comstock Lode, eliminating the costly and dangerous transport of precious metals to distant mints. Carson City Morgan dollars, minted from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893, are among the most coveted coins in American numismatics. Marked with the distinctive “CC” mintmark, these silver dollars were struck using the locally mined Nevada silver at the height of the Comstock Lode mining boom. Today, 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Located strategically near the mining districts, the Carson City Mint operated intermittently due to political pressures, funding issues, and fluctuating metal prices, officially closing as a mint in 1893 after producing millions of coins, including Morgan dollars, trade dollars, and gold pieces bearing the famous “CC” mintmark.
All 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available here come in Mint State 62 condition. Coins in this condition showcase an impaired mint luster with clusters of small contact marks, as well as a few large marks. Hairlines may be noticeable as well.
On the obverse of 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollars, you will find George T. Morgan’s bust of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1878, this left-profile relief captures the image of Liberty with flowing hair, a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet crown. The field includes 13 stars set along the bottom ring of the design field.
The reverse of 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Coins includes another design from George T. Morgan. This version of the heraldic eagle showcases a bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread to the sides. The eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
