The Morgan Silver Dollar is a cherished piece of American numismatic history. First minted in 1878, this silver dollar was produced every year until 1904, before making a comeback in 1921 when the US resumed the coining of silver dollars after a 17-year break. The coins were minted at various branch locations, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City, and Denver, throughout the program’s lifespan. Today, 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition are available from JM Bullion.

On the obverse of the 1883 Morgan Dollar Coins, you can see a striking depiction of Lady Liberty. Designed by George T. Morgan in 1878, this portrait features Liberty in left-profile relief, adorned with a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet crown. Surrounding her are 13 stars that complete the design.
The reverse side of the 1883 Morgan Silver Dollars showcases an intricate portrayal of the heraldic eagle. This design, also by Morgan, presents a majestic bald eagle facing forward, its wings spread wide. The eagle’s talons grasp the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace, symbolizing the balance between strength and harmony.
