Throughout the early 1880s, the United States Mint was striking somewhere between 25 million and 30 million Morgan Silver Dollars per year for use in circulation. The Philadelphia Mint and San Francisco Mint initially led the charge in striking Morgan Dollars, but by the mid-to-late 1880s, the New Orleans Mint had overtaken the San Francisco Mint as one of the top producers of the coins. Today, 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollars from the GSA are available to you online from JM Bullion.

Through many of the early years of Morgan Silver Dollar coining, the Philadelphia Mint and San Francisco Mint flipped back and forth in terms of the highest volume of coins struck. In 1883, the New Orleans mint surpassed the San Francisco Mint to record the second-highest volume of coins issued at 8.725 million coins compared to 6.25 million at San Francisco. The Carson City Mint continued to be the lowest producer by volume with just 1.204 million coins.
All of the 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins listed here are from the GSA auctions of the 1970s and 1980s. The coins were discovered in US Treasury vaults in the 1960s and eventually audited by the GSA to determine the number of coins, the various date marks, and the various mint marks. When the GSA packaged the coins for sale at auction, each coin was directly set in the hard plastic holder you will receive your coin in through this listing.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of 1883-CC Morgan Dollars. This design was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and features Liberty in left-profile relief with 13 stars in the design field and a date mark at the bottom.
The heraldic eagle of the United States is present on the reverse side of 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar coins. This was also created by Morgan and features a front-facing bald eagle clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace with its talons.
The Carson City Mint’s release of 1.204 million coins in 1883 was slightly higher than its 1882 production level and roughly on-par with its average annual production from 1878-1885 and 1889-1893. What is significant about the 1883 date mark is the number of coins from that original mintage of 1.204 million coins that wound up in US Treasury vaults in the 19th century and never saw circulation. The GSA found a total of 755,000 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollars in the Treasury vaults, accounting for more than half the original mintage total.
