One of the more unique collections of Pre-33 US Gold coins are those known as the Fairmont Collection. This hoard of gold coins consists of Half Eagles, Eagles, and Double Eagles struck in the 19th century and used by the United States in overseas commerce. The coins were eventually repatriated to the US and many were found to be in good condition for their age, attracting the attention of collectors. Right now, 1882-O $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.

Four branch mints produced $10 Liberty Eagles in 1882, with Philadelphia striking the highest volume at 2,324,440 coins. The San Francisco Mint had the next highest tally, but it was modest compared to Philadelphia at just 132,000 coins. New Orleans and Carson City issued the lowest volumes, with New Orleans striking 10,820 coins and Carson City striking 6,764 coins.
Obverse design elements on 1882-O Liberty Eagle Coins include Lady Liberty. Christian Gobrecht designed this left-profile relief in which Liberty has her hair up in a tight bun while wearing a coronet crown on her head. The field also includes an arch of 13 stars over Liberty’s head and a date mark beneath the bust.
Reverse visuals on 1882-O $10 Liberty Gold Eagles feature the heraldic eagle. Also designed by Gobrecht, this design element includes a bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield. The talons of the bird clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Type II specimens like this have the added banner above the eagle with the national motto.
