All 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Coins in this online JM Bullion listing were struck in 90% silver at the Carson City Mint in Nevada. The coins will arrive to you in their original GSA holders, which were created to house select CC Morgans that were discovered in US Treasury vaults during the 1960s. Also included is a label wrapping around the surface of the case from NGC to confirm the coin’s certified status. As MS65+ coins, these may be in slightly better condition than a regular MS65 coin.
Beginning in the 1970s, a series of auctions were held for the general public to obtain GSA Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars that had been discovered in US Treasury vaults. These auctions received a great deal of publicity, as well as official titles from the government. The first auction was titled The Great Silver Sale, and was followed by another called The Coins Jesse James Never Got. Other notable auctions included The Last of a Legacy Sale in 1974 and the 90% Silver, 100% History sale in 1980.
On the obverse side of 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollars, there is an effigy of Lady Liberty. This iconic portrait was developed by George T. Morgan and today is considered one of the most recognizable designs in all American coinage. Also shown on the obverse are thirteen stars, the motto E Pluribus Unum, and the coin’s year of release.
The reverse of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins features a heraldic eagle design. Morgan also designed this image and modified the original seal image by removing the shield from the eagle’s chest. However, you will see the standard olive branch and arrows in the bird’s talons. Other design elements include a pair of laurels as well as the Carson City mintmark.
