The obverse of the 1881-S Morgan Dollar Coin features a stunning left-profile relief of Lady Liberty. Morgan is believed to have drawn inspiration from Anna Willes Williams for this portrayal. Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, adorned with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown. Surrounding her image is a circle of 13 stars.
On the reverse, the 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollar showcases a heraldic eagle. Unlike the traditional representation, Morgan’s eagle does not include a national shield but is presented in a front-facing relief with its wings spread wide. The eagle’s talons grasp both the olive branch of peace and the arrows of war.
