The 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin is a unique specimen from within the 13 issues of Morgan Dollars from the Carson City Mint. Just the fourth year of availability, the 1881 coin had the second-lowest mintage of any date mark at the Carson City Mint, but it would later prove to have one of the highest survival rates thanks to the discovery of the so-called GSA Hoard of Morgans in Treasury vaults in the 1960s. Today, 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion in certified condition.

In total, the Carson City Mint issued some 13.8 million Morgan Silver Dollars during its production run of the coins. This included date ranges of 1878 to 1885 and 1889 to 1893. The 1881 coin has the second-lowest mintage behind only the 1885 coin, the latter of which had a scant mintage of just 228,000 coins. While both were long assumed to be rare in the 20th century, the discovery of thousands of Morgan Silver Dollars in Treasury vaults in the 1960s changed that narrative. Though the 1881-CC Morgan Dollar had a low original mintage, the discovery of the GSA Hoard included 49.82% of the overall mintage from 1881 still available in the 20th century!
All of these 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to purchase with plastic slabs and a certification from the PCGS. Mint State 63 coins have impaired mint luster with a variety of possible flaws. These flaws include several small contact marks, some of which may be in the primary focal fields, the possibility of heavier contact marks, and the potential for light hairlines visible without magnification.
On the obverse of 1881-CC Morgan Dollars is an effigy of Liberty. Created in 1881, it depicts Liberty’s head in left-profile relief with the Phrygian cap on, as well as the coronet crown and a laurel wreath. You will also find 13 stars on this design field of the coin.
The reverse side of the 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. Also designed by George T. Morgan, this image shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war in one talon and an olive branch of peace in the other.
