The Fairmont Collection is a hoard of Pre-33 US Gold Coins discovered in overseas vaults in the 21st century. Many of these coins were struck by the US Mint in the 19th century and initially used in international commerce between the United States and other countries. In the 21st century, a hoard of these coins was rediscovered and repatriated to the United States, providing the collector market with a unique cache of Pre-33 US Gold. Today, 1880-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.

In 1880, the Liberty Gold Eagle Coin was produced by three branches of the United States Mint. The highest volume of coins came from the Philadelphia Mint, which produced 1,644,840 coins. The other mints to issue coins were the New Orleans Mint, which produced just 9,200 coins, while the San Francisco Mint released 506,250 coins.
All of these 1880-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins come with a Mint State 61 certification. Coins in this condition may have a few heavy marks in the primary focal areas with a noticeable patch of hairlines. The mint luster may be impaired as well.
On the obverse of 1880-S Liberty Eagle Coin, you will find a portrait of Lady Liberty created by Christian Gobrecht. The 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint developed a left-profile effigy of Liberty with her hair in a tight bun with a coronet crown on her head. The field includes 13 stars and a date mark.
The reverse side of 1880-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagles comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. Also designed by Gobrecht, this side features a bald eagle with the US national shield. The eagle’s talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. As a Type II specimen, these coins include the 1866 addition of a banner with the national motto above the eagle.
