In the early days of production for the Morgan Silver Dollar, four branch mints of the United States Mint contributed to the coining of Morgan Dollars. There were only a handful of years that saw all four branch mints strike the coins each year, including 1879. Today, 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in certified condition at JM Bullion.

Few years in the history of the Morgan Dollar saw four branch mints strike the coins. In the first 15 years of production, Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Carson City regularly struck the coins. However, since Carson City only issued the coins from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889-1893, only 12 of the first 15 years (and 12 years overall) featured coins struck by four branch mints.
All 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in this listing come with a Mint State 65 certification. Coins in this condition have an above average luster with light, scattered contact marks, scattered hairlines, and no major distracting marks in the primary focal points. Overall, the coins have a very pleasing eye appeal.
On the obverse of 1879-S Morgan Dollar Coins, you will find George T. Morgan’s bust of Lady Liberty. The left-profile relief captures Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap on her head, with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown in her hair. There are 13 stars on this side of the coin arranged along the bottom half of the field.
The reverse side of the 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollars comes with another design from Morgan. This design shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread. The eagle is shown without the US national shield, but does clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
