Authorized with passage of the Bland-Allison Act, the Morgan Silver Dollar made its debut in 1878. Right now, 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin offered here is in Mint State 63 condition. Coins with this grade exhibit slightly impaired mint luster with flaws such as small contact marks and scattered heavy marks, as well as small hairlines that are visible without magnification.
The introduction of the Morgan Silver Dollar in 1878 brought silver dollar coining back in the United States after a five-year break. The Morgan Dollar replaced the Seated Liberty Dollar, a coin that was issued from 1840 to 1873.
The obverse of the 1879 Morgan Dollar Coin comes with a bust of Lady Liberty. Morgan’s design features Liberty’s head in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap on her head, as well as the coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair.
On the reverse face of 1879 Morgan Silver Dollars is a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This design, also from Morgan, shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread as its talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
