In this unique listing, you can purchase a Capped Die coin from the series. Right now, 1879-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each of the 1879-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available in this listing come with Very Good 08 grades. Coins with this grade have medium or heavy wear with some details still visible on the fields of the coin.
A so-called Capped Die coin is one that showcases a distinct minting error. If you look above the CC mint mark on the reverse of the coin, you’ll notice what looks like two “caps” above the CC. This is the result of the mint’s use of a worn, rusty die in production. The initial strike needed to be re-punched because of the crust that accumulated around the original mint mark.
Lady Liberty features on the obverse of the 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin. This effigy from George T. Morgan depicts Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. She wears a Phrygian cap on the back of her head with a coronet crown and laurel wreath also present.
In the reverse design of the 1879-CC Morgan Dollar Coin, you’ll find the heraldic eagle. Also designed by George Morgan, this visual features a front-facing bald eagle with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The CC mint mark beneath the wreath on this field features the “Capped Die” flaw.
