The Morgan Silver Dollar is America’s most famous silver dollar coin design, and its production at the Carson City Mint is an interesting piece of American history. Silver dollars were extremely popular in the American West, more so than in the rest of the country. The Carson City Mint was America’s last purpose-built mint and took advantage of local silver mines to quickly turn around raw silver as circulation currency. The Carson City Mint, established in 1863 and operational from 1870 to 1893, played a significant role in the production of the Morgan Silver Dollar. Located in Carson City, Nevada, this mint was strategically positioned near the rich silver deposits of the Comstock Lode, making it an ideal facility for producing silver coinage.
All 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available here come in Mint State 63 condition. The coins have mint luster that is slightly impaired and a rather attractive overall eye appeal. Numerous small contact marks may be present with a few scattered heavy marks. Small hairlines may also be visible without magnification.
On the obverse of 1878-CC Morgan Dollar Coins, you’ll find George T. Morgan’s bust of Lady Liberty. This left-profile relief is emblematic of American coin designs from the 19th century and features Liberty wearing a laurel wreath and coronet crown on her head.
The reverse side of the 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar comes with another design from Morgan. This version of the heraldic eagle showcases the American bald eagle in front-facing relief as it spreads its wings to the sides while clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
