The very first year of issue in the Morgan Silver Dollar Series was 1878. While a total of five branch mints in the US Mint system would strike these coins over the course of the program’s history, only three of those mints would issue the coins in 1878. The Carson City Mint was among the mints to issue the inaugural coins in the series. Now, 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the highest-minted coins from the Carson City Mint in this series. The debut release included 2.212 million coins from Carson City. This was the highest mintage from the Carson City Mint during its original production run from 1878 to 1885. Only the 1890-CC Morgan Dollar had a higher original mintage. This coin was released during Carson City’s 1889-1893 production of the coins.
Morgan Silver Dollars were issued, overall, from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. Over the course of time, two mints would issue the coins for all these date marks: Philadelphia and San Francisco. One mint would issue the coins just once in 1921: Denver. The New Orleans Mint struck the coins in every year but two: 1878 and 1921.
Obverse features on 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins include a portrait of Lady Liberty. This left-profile relief shows Liberty with a Phrygian cap on her head, as well as the coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair.
Reverse designs on 1878-CC Morgan Dollars include the heraldic eagle of the United States. This iconic design shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The bird is framed by a wreath of oak and laurel. The CC mint mark features on this side of the coin.
These 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you for purchase in MS63 condition with a plastic slab from the NGC. Mint State 63 coins showcase slightly impaired mint luster with various possible flaws several small contact marks, a few heavier marks, and small hairlines visible without magnification.
