Coin Highlights:
Each 1875-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin is available to you with an MS61 certification from the PCGS. Coins in this condition exhibit impaired or diminished mint luster, clusters of large and small contact marks, and noticeable hairlines.
In 1875, the Carson City Mint issued Liberty Gold Double Eagles for just the sixth time overall. The first Gold Double Eagles were issued at Carson City in 1870 when it formally opened. In total, Carson City would issue 19 date marks in the Gold Double Eagle Series. It did not issue Double Eagles in 1880 and 1881, nor did it issue coins of any denomination from 1886 to 1888 during its operational suspension.
Obverse design elements on the 1875 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin include the left-profile bust of Liberty. Designed by James B. Longacre in 1849 as a modification of Christian Gobrecht’s 1838 portrait, the image shows Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a coronet crown.
Reverse visuals on the 1875-CC Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin feature the Great Seal of the United States. The imagery offers an ornate version of the heraldic eagle with a front-facing eagle supporting the US national shield. The eagle’s wingtips are connected by an arch of sunrays as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
