Today, certified 1861 Seated Liberty Half Dollars are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 1861 Seated Liberty Half Dollar holds a uniquely compelling position in American coinage history, as it was struck during the turbulent opening year of the Civil War, a conflict that would profoundly reshape the nation. Collectors are drawn to the 1861 issue not only for its Civil War provenance but also for the challenge of distinguishing and attributing its various die marriages and production origins.
All 1861 Seated Liberty Half Dollar Coins available here are in Mint State 62 condition. MS62 coins have generally acceptable eye appeal with clusters of small marks throughout, and a few larger marks or nicks are possible in the primary focal areas. Hairlines will be noticeable on an MS62 specimen.
On the obverse of 1861 Seated Liberty Coins, you will find Christian Gobrecht’s graceful depiction of Liberty seated upon a rock, draped in flowing robes and holding a shield in her left hand, while her right hand grasps a pole topped with a liberty cap. Thirteen stars arc around the perimeter of the coin, with the date positioned at the bottom.
The reverse of the 1861 Seated Liberty Half Dollar presents a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings at its center, clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons, with a shield at its breast. This field includes the nation of issue and denomination of the coin.
