Coin Highlights:
The release of 1858 Pre-33 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins from the United States Mint included specimens struck at three different mints across the country. These included coins issued by the Philadelphia Mint on the East Coast, the New Orleans Mint in the American South, and the San Francisco Mint on the West Coast.
Among the three mints, just over 34,000 coins were struck by the US Mint. The Philadelphia Mint issued the fewest, with the New Orleans Mint issuing the largest number of coins. The San Francisco Mint was issuing coins for just the fifth time at this point in American history.
Liberty is featured on the obverse of 1858-O $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins. This design from Christian Gobrecht was created in 1838 and shows Liberty’s head in left-profile relief with a coronet crown in her hair.
The heraldic eagle is found in the reverse design of 1858 Pre-33 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins. Created in 1838 as well, the design shows the bald eagle supporting the US national shield while clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
These 1858-O Pre-33 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available in XF45 condition. Known as Extremely Fine 45, this coin is the highest grade among XF coins and has light wear only on its high relief points and some traces of mint luster.
