From 1795 to 1933, the gold coins of the US Eagle denomination were circulated in the American economy and even used in overseas trade between the US and other nations. In the 2010s, a hoard of Pre-33 US Gold Coins were found in overseas vaults and repatriated to the US in what became known as the Fairmont Collection. Today, 1856-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Several denominations of Pre-33 US Gold Coins were used by the American government and American businesses in overseas commerce during the 19th and early-20th centuries. Denominations such as the Half Eagle, Eagle, and Double Eagle made their way overseas and wound up in foreign vaults. After their discovery in the 2010s, many of these coins were repatriated to the United States and found to be in good condition for their age.
All 1856-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available here in Extremely Fine 45 condition. These coins are at the top of the Extremely Fine range and showcase light wear only on the high relief points and may bear some of traces of the original luster.
On the obverse of 1856-S $10 Liberty Eagle Coins, you will find a bust of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1838, it shows Liberty’s head in left-profile relief with hair up in a neat bun and a coronet crown on her head. The field also includes an arch of 13 stars and a date mark.
The reverse of the 1856-S Liberty Gold Eagle comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This image was created in 1838 as well and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield. As the eagle looks to the left of the design field, its talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
