From 1795 to 1933, the United States minted gold coins with the Eagle denomination, which circulated widely within the US and were often used in international trade. In the 2010s, a remarkable discovery of Pre-1933 US Gold Coins in overseas vaults led to the repatriation of these historical coins, forming what is now known as the Fairmont Collection. Now, JM Bullion offers certified 1856-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins from this collection.

The obverse of each 1856-S Liberty Gold Eagle features a left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty. First designed in 1838, this depiction shows Liberty with her hair in a neat bun beneath a coronet crown. The field around her includes a ring of 13 stars and the 1856 date mark.
On the reverse, the 1856-S $10 Liberty Eagle Coin displays the heraldic eagle, also introduced in 1838. The bald eagle faces left, with the national shield over its chest, clutching arrows symbolizing strength and an olive branch for peace.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, American gold coins in denominations like the Half Eagle, Eagle, and Double Eagle played a significant role in overseas trade, with many of these coins ending up stored in foreign vaults. When the Fairmont Collection was uncovered in the 2010s, collectors found that many coins remained in impressive condition, especially for their age.
The 1856-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in this offering come certified in About Uncirculated 50 condition. Coins with this grade showcase extremely light or trace fraction on the highest relief points with medium or near-full luster remaining.
