One of the more unique Pre-33 US Gold Coins ever issued was the so-called Indian Princess Gold Coin. James B. Longacre designed this $3 (USD) gold piece and was only in production from 1854 to 1889. The coin was one of the first to introduce Native American themes to US coinage, with Liberty depicted as an indigenous princess wearing an ornate headdress. Right now, 1856 Pre-33 $3 Indian Princess Gold Coins in certified condition are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.

Each of the 1856 Pre-33 $3 Indian Princess Gold Coins available here comes in Mint State 61 condition. Coins with this grade exhibit marginal, diminished mint luster with a variety of visual flaws that include small contact marks, fewer large contact marks, scuff marks, and noticeable hairlines.
The $3 Indian Princess Gold Coin was introduced in 1854 and the reverse was immediately redesigned in 1855. However, from that point onward, the obverse and reverse design elements remained unchanged on the coins. In general, $3 Indian Princess Gold Coins circulated on the US West Coast in the 19th century and were less popular on the East Coast, where paper currency was gaining traction with Americans.
In the obverse design of 1856 Pre-33 Indian Princess Gold Coins, Longacre offers a unique vision of Lady Liberty. Here, a bust of Liberty is shown in left-profile relief with an ornate, feathered headdress on her head.
For the reverse side of the 1856-Pre $3 Indian Princess Gold Coin, the mint features a depiction of a wreath made from corn, wheat, tobacco, and cotton, all crops that represent the bountiful harvest found across the country. This particular version is the Type II reverse with the so-called “large dollar” design that has a larger opening at the top of the wreath with the date and face value of the coin in the center.
