For the obverse of the 1855-O Liberty Gold Eagle Coin, the US Mint offers a design from Christian Gobrecht. This design shows Lady Liberty in left-profile relief with neatly kept hair and a coronet crown on her head. The design element includes 13 stars in an arch over Liberty’s head with a date mark below.
In the reverse field of 1855-O $10 Liberty Eagle Coins, you will find the heraldic eagle. Also designed by Gobrecht, this visual shows a bald eagle in front-facing relief as the eagle looks to the left of the field. The US national shield is in front of the eagle as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
The 1855 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin was struck at three branch mints. The Philadelphia Mint had the highest mintage at 121,701 coins, while the San Francisco Mint struck the fewest at only 9,000 coins. The New Orleans Mint issued a similarly small volume of coins with just 18,000 in total.
