Designed by Christian Gobrecht, this design of Liberty and the heraldic eagle appeared on the $10 denomination from 1838 to 1907. As pieces from the Fairmont Collection, these coins were held in vaults overseas before being returned to the United States in the 21st century.
All 1848 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins available here are PCGS-certified in About Uncirculated 50 condition and comes encased in a protective plastic slab. Coins with an AU50 grade have wear patterns that range from extremely light to only trace signs of friction on the highest relief points. It is also possible for the coins to showcase medium or near-full mint luster.
The obverse of the 1848 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Her hair is tied back in a bun and adorned with a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY.” Thirteen stars encircle the design, representing the original colonies, with the mintage year below.
On the reverse of the 1848 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin, the heraldic eagle of the United States is depicted. The eagle holds the arrows of war and an olive branch of peace, symbolizing strength and diplomacy, with a US national shield over its chest. The coin’s face value and issuing nation are also inscribed on this side.
