The Kingdom of Sardinia was formally established as such in 1479 and remained an independent kingdom until 1861 when it was absorbed into the Kingdom of Italy.
All of the 1826 80 Lire Italian Gold Sardinian Coins in this product listing come with a certification from the NGC. Coins in AU55 condition have only slight wear that is present on less than 50% of the design elements. The coins are packaged inside of custom NGC plastic slabs. The custom label within the slab features the three stripes of the Italian flag along the bottom with a map of modern Italy and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Obverse design elements on the 1826 80 Lire Italian Gold Sardinian Coins include a portrait of Charles Felix, King of Sardinia. The left-profile portrait captures an effigy of the man who ruled as King of Sardinia from 1821 to 1831. Charles Felix was from the House of Savoy and was born to Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia and his wife, Maria Antonia Ferdinanda of Spain.
Reverse features of 1826 80 Lire Gold Sardinian Coins come with a depiction of the eagle-version of the House of Savoy coat of arms. The gold coins of the Italian Lira issued by Sardinia came with images of either an anchor or eagle at the center of the shield. The 1826 release featured only an eagle version of the design, while other years featured either the anchor or both versions.
