From 2016 through 2021, The Royal Mint honored the legacy of British heraldry and the monarchy with its Queen’s Beast Collection. This series introduced 10 distinctive heraldic beast designs spanning centuries of English royal history, with inspiration drawn from the beasts present during the rule of King Henry VIII in the 16th century. Today, the 10 oz The Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Silver Bar is available from JM Bullion.
Bar Highlights:
Sculptor James Woodford created the heraldic beast statues specifically for the coronation event. Standing six feet tall, each beast was crafted in a formal heraldic style, holding a shield emblazoned with the badge or arms of the family it represented. While rooted in medieval symbolism, the figures reflected a distinctly modern artistic touch of the mid-20th century, blending historical imagery with contemporary design. As the young queen made her way into Westminster Abbey, these creatures stood in silent vigil, marking her path to the throne.
All 10 oz The Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Silver Bars available here are individually packaged in a vinyl sleeve for protection. These bars commemorate the Queen’s Beast coin series, featuring the full set of 10 heraldic beasts on the obverse. This 10 oz silver version is part of a broader release and has a mintage of only 6,000 pieces. It is featured alongside 1 oz silver and 1 oz gold variants sharing the same design.
The obverse of the 10 oz Queen’s Beast Completer Silver Bar features artwork by Jody Clark. In this design, Queen Elizabeth II is shown in the center, using Mary Gillick’s 1952 portrait, surrounded by all 10 heraldic creatures from the series: the Lion of England, Griffin of Edward III, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Black Bull of Clarence, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Greyhound of Richmond, Red Dragon of Wales, Unicorn of Scotland, and White Horse of Hanover.
On the reverse of the Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Silver Bar, you’ll find a guilloche-style background paired with The Royal Mint’s official emblem. This side also includes the bar’s identifying details, such as its weight, metal type, and purity level.
