Known as the “Indian Titanic,” the S.S. Tilawa met its tragic end in the Indian Ocean during World War II. Bound for Durban, South Africa, the ship set sail from Bombay, India, but was struck by Japanese torpedoes and never reached its destination. Along with the tragic loss of life, 2,364 silver bars sank with the ship. In a secretive 2017 operation, about 60 tons of silver were retrieved from the wreck, leading to heated debates over the salvage. Now, 10 oz S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Bars are available online at JM Bullion.

In the obverse of the 10 oz S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Bar, you will find a common design for the silver bars in this series. The central seal includes a silhouette of the Tilawa with stylized waves beneath and anchors to either side. This emblem is set against a textured wave pattern in the background.
For the reverse of S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Bars, the design features a stirring image of the S.S. Tilawa. Here, the ship is shown sailing the seas with its wake visible as it moves along. The background offers its own water-ripple effect. The S.S. Tilawa’s final voyage in November 1942 saw it carrying several tons of silver bullion from Bombay to Durban in South Africa.
The S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Salvage Silver Series allows collectors and investors to hold a rare piece of naval history. This British India Steam Navigation Company liner was sunk by a Japanese submarine on November 23, 1942, while transporting 60 tons of silver bullion through the Indian Ocean. After lying undiscovered for decades, the wreck was found in 2014, and its silver was recovered in 2017.
These 10 oz S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Bars are available with protective plastic. Each one of these bars has a common set of design elements featured on all modern bullion bars in this series. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Bars were refined using silver bullion recovered from the ocean floor amidst the wreckage of the S.S. Tilawa.
