The Dutch guilder gold coin is based upon the 1517 issue of the gulden coinage, which was the Dutch word for golden. The guilder itself was issued from the 17th century through 2002 as the official national currency of the Netherlands, but not all denominations were available for that entire period. The 10 Guilders Gold Coin is currently available to you for online purchase from JM Bullion form the era of Gold Kings coinage.

10 Guilders Gold Coins were issued by the Royal Dutch Mint from 1818 and the reign of King Willem I through 1933 and the reign of his great-great-granddaughter Queen Wilhelmina I. The coins available in this listing are known as Gold Kings because they were issued between 1818 and 1890 when Willem I, Willem II, and Willem III ruled as the King of Netherlands successively.
The most common design on the obverse of the 10 Guilders Gold Coins is the image of Willem III. He reigned from 1849 until his death in November 1890. His 41-year rule was the second-longest of any monarch of the Kingdom of Netherlands and surpassed only by that of his daughter Queen Wilhelmina I.
Though his reign was much earlier in the 19th century, King Willem I of the Kingdom of Netherlands is another common effigy found on the obverse of the 10 Guilders Gold Coins. Willem I was responsible for founding the Kingdom of Netherlands in 1815 and would rule until 1840 when he abdicated the throne for his son. His coinage was available only from 1818 to 1840.
The least common 10 Guilders Gold Coin obverse design is that of Willem II. He succeeded his father Willem I when he abdicated the throne but would only rule as King of the Netherlands until 1849 when he died, but his coinage was never issued in 1849, with coins from that year featuring Willem III.
On the reverse of the 10 Guilders Gold Coin, you’ll find the crowned arms of the Kingdom of Netherlands. The crowned shield includes the rampant lion of Netherlands with a sword in its paw and a crown above the shield. Engravings include the Dutch-language inscriptions of the kingdom, face value, and date mark.
