The 1 Peso Mexican Gold Coin debuted in 1870 during the Second Mexican Republic following the birth of the modern nation of Mexico. This occurred following the execution of Emperor Maximillian and the collapse of the Second Mexican Empire. As a new nation emerged, so too did new coinage.

1 Peso coins were first issued in 1869 when the Second Mexican Republic was formed, but the first coins in this denomination were silver coins. The 1 Peso Mexican Gold coin was first issued in 1870 and available until 1905 with different mints throughout Mexico issuing the coins during this 35-year period.

On the obverse of 1 Peso Mexican Gold Coins is the face value of the coin with an ornamental wreath framing the lower half of the design field. The face value is marked as “1 Peso” and above the value you’ll notice inscriptions of the gold coin’s purity and the mint mark of the issuing mint. All 1 Peso Gold Coins have .875 gold content.
