The term unique is used a lot when it comes to describing precious metal coins produced at mints and refineries around the globe. If ever there was a product deserving of this title, it is the new 1 oz gold coin offered by Valcambi Suisse, a world-famous refinery well known for its gold bars. The 1 oz Valcambi Gold Armillary Sphere is now available through JM Bullion.

- Features four 1/4 oz gold coins connected by concentric circles.
- Total face value of $100 (Cook Island Dollars).
- Individual face value of $25 (CID) per gold coin.
- Ships in a special presentation case.
The refiners at Valcambi Suisse designed the all-new 1 oz gold coin as legal tender in the Cook Islands using the ancient armillary sphere as inspiration and implemented its patented CombiBar technology to make this creation possible.
Each individual product appears as a flat, singular coin, but is in reality a series of four concentric circles. Each of the four circles consists of 1/4 oz of .9999 pure gold, and bears a face value of $25. The coin can be twisted into a piece of artwork that resembles an armillary sphere, or even separated using CombiBar technology into four separate coins.
The armillary sphere name traces its roots back to the Greek astronomer Eratosthenes. His sphere was considered a model of the celestial globe in which the rings and hoops represent the equator and other meridians of the planet.
On the reverse side of the coin is a simple engraving of the word “Valcambi” across the dividing lines of the coin, with a vacant hole in the exact center of the coin. The obverse side of the coin features designs and engravings that run along the rings of each of the four coins.
Each of the rings on the reverse side features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, as well as engravings that include Her Majesty’s name, the face value of the coin, the year of minting, the nation of issue, and the individual coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.
