Issued in the 1980s, the Trade United Series consisted of unique silver round shaped like hexagons. The designs featured on these pieces celebrate several iconic American emblems, such as the balance scale, the American bald eagle, and the Liberty Bell. Today, 1 oz Trade Unit Hexagon Silver Rounds are available at JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
One of the central design elements of the Trade Unit Series round is the Liberty Bell. The Liberty Bell, an iconic symbol of American independence cast in 1751, gained its distinctive crack while tolling for George Washington’s birthday in 1846. Originally commissioned for the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall), the 2,080-pound bronze bell features the Biblical inscription “Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof” and has become a powerful emblem of freedom and civil rights movements despite never actually being rung to announce independence in 1776.
All 1 oz Trade Unit Hexagon Silver Rounds are available here with protective plastic flips. These items are privately minted and bear the terminology THE INTERNATIONAL SILVER TRADE UNIT as a way to distinguish them as private mint silver pieces not produced by a sovereign mint for currency purposes. The use of a hexagon blank further separated these silver trade units from currency.
On the obverse of Trade Unit Hexagon Silver Round, you will find a depiction of the Liberty Bell and an American bald eagle. In this design, the bald eagle is shown in front of the Liberty Bell as it descends in flight with its talons extended and its wings raised.
The reverse side of the 1 oz Trade Unit Hexagon Silver Round, the mint features balance scales. The scales include a stack of coins on the left plate and weight measurements on the other end of the scale. The scales are flanked by olive branches with the identifying hallmarks noted above the scales.
