Between 2016 and 2021, The Royal Mint produced the Queen’s Beast Collection—a tribute to the rich history of British heraldry and royal tradition. This collection consisted of 10 distinctive designs, each representing a heraldic beast tied to English royal history, with their roots tracing back to the time of King Henry VIII. Now, the 1 oz The Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar is available to you online at JM Bullion.
Bar Highlights:
The obverse of the 1 oz Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar showcases a circular layout of the ten beasts, a design by Jody Clark. At the center is Queen Elizabeth II, shown in the classic 1952 effigy by Mary Gillick. The beasts surrounding her include the Lion of England, Griffin of Edward III, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Black Bull of Clarence, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Greyhound of Richmond, Red Dragon of Wales, Unicorn of Scotland, and White Horse of Hanover.
The reverse of the Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bar features a guilloche-patterned background and prominently displays The Royal Mint’s crest. You’ll also find key specifications inscribed here, including the bar’s weight, purity, and metal content.
The inspiration for the Queen’s Beasts can be traced back to a similar tradition from the reign of King Henry VIII. In the 1530s, as part of his renovation of Hampton Court Palace, Henry commissioned a set of large painted plaster beasts. These were mounted on poles and lined the moat bridge leading to the palace, creating a powerful visual statement of royal authority. Unlike the temporary nature of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation display, Henry’s beasts were intended as permanent fixtures, serving as symbols of royal lineage meant to impress all who approached the palace.
These 1 oz The Royal Mint Queen’s Beast Completer Gold Bars are presented in a sealed blistercard with the Royal Mint logo on the included card. This bar pays homage to the original Queen’s Beast coin series and includes depictions of all 10 heraldic creatures on the obverse. The 1 oz gold bar is one of three options in the lineup, released alongside 1 oz and 10 oz silver versions, and it carries the smallest mintage of just 5,000 bars.
