The Mighty Eagle design found on the new SilverTowne Eagle Round focuses on the head of the majestic bird of prey. Native to the North American continent, the bald eagle is not actually a bald species of bird. The name given to the bald eagle is rooted in an older association for the word “white-headed.” As the bald eagle ages, its plumage changes from all brown to brown throughout the body with an all-white head in both the males and females. The best way to tell a female from a male is by body size, with females often 25 percent larger than males in the species.
The obverse side of 1 oz SilverTowne Mighty Eagle Silver Rounds includes a design of the eagle head. With long, flowing plumage feathers on its head flowing down the design element, the bird’s instantly recognizable hooked beak is also visible in the design. The bird’s eyes are fixed on an object in the distance.
On the reverse field of the SilverTowne Mighty Eagle Silver Round is an image of the mint name in a repeating pattern. With separate blocks, the words “SilverTowne Mint” repeat across the bar at an angle, with each block of text separated from the next. There is also a SilverTowne pick-ax mint mark on this face of the silver rounds.
SilverTowne is located in Winchester, Indiana. It was first opened as a small coin and antique shop and has slowly grown over the decades to become one of the largest and most respected private mints in the US.
