Each 1 oz Tombstone Hammered Round in this JM Bullion listing online was struck in .9999 pure gold at Scottsdale, a private mint located in Arizona. Inspired by the Old West, these rounds look like they could have come straight out of a saloon in Tombstone. Included with each purchase is a Certificate of Authenticity and an old-fashioned burlap bag with the words Tombstone Arizona Territory printed across the front.
A classic Old West town, Tombstone Arizona is perhaps most remembered for the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The gun battle took place on October 26, 1881, with the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday facing off against the Clanton-McLaury gang. The fight was instigated when the vicious gang rode into town only to receive a pistol-whipping from the Earp brothers. A gunfight then ensued in an empty lot behind the O.K. Corral. It only lasted for about 30 seconds and resulted in the deaths of Billy Clanton and the McLaury brothers. The Earps and Doc Holliday sustained minor injuries and were ultimately pardoned of the offense by the Tombstone judge.
On the obverse of 1 oz Scottsdale Tombstone Gold Rounds there are a series of inscriptions across a unique hammered field. The inscriptions read Tombstone, Hammered Gold. Because of their hammered aesthetic, each of these rounds has a slightly different shape and texture.
The reverse side of 1 oz Scottsdale Tombstone Hammered Gold Rounds contains the Scottsdale logo and the round hallmarks. The logo consists of a lion with a crown atop its head. Surrounding this are the words Made by Scottsdale Mint. The hallmarks are below this and read 1 Troy Oz, .9999 Gold. Like the reverse, there is a hammered pattern on the remainder of the field.
