Wild boars are not native to North America but were introduced through multiple waves of importation. Spanish explorers brought domesticated pigs in the 1500s, many of which escaped and established feral populations. In the early 1900s, Eurasian wild boars were deliberately imported for sport hunting, and these populations interbred with feral domestic pigs, creating the hybrid populations we see today.
