The Norse God Series is a five-design release from the Anonymous Mint. While lead coin designer Julie Lindquist devised the series, significant contributions came from Howard David Johnson and Luigi Badia. Johnson is a world-renowned American illustrator and artist whose works often crisscross the historical and mythology realms. Badia is an Italian Master Sculptor whose contribution included sculpting Johnson’s designs on dies used in the coining process.
All of the 1 oz Norse God Series Loki Silver Rounds offered to you here today come with a protective plastic capsule. The rounds are available in individual packages and feature a brilliant 24-karat gold plating. This finish is applied only to selective design elements to help the main visuals standout from smaller details and the background field of the round.
Loki is depicted on the obverse of the Norse God Series Loki Silver Round. The mischievous figure is shown in his human form, though one of the shapeshifters he often transforms into is also shown in the design: a fish. He is holding a staff in his left hand and wearing a helmet with long, curled horns.
Although labeled a god in some versions of Norse mythology, interpretations of Loki’s exact status vary. Some have suggested he was a member of a race of giants known as Jotun, while some say he is a blood brother to Odin, the All-Father god.
A rider from the Valkyrie is shown in the reverse design of 1 oz Norse God Series Loki Silver Rounds. The Valkyrie were hand-picked by Odin to serve as warrior maidens. They rode on powerful steeds in the clouds as the armies of mankind battled below. Led by Freya, the Valkyrie determined who lived and who died in battle, selecting only the bravest of the dead for eternal glory in Valhalla.
