Hel is the first of two goddesses from Norse mythology to feature in the Norse God Series. Much like Roman and Greek mythology had gods and goddesses on opposing ends of the spectrum, so too did Norse mythology. The ruler of Asgard, Odin, and the likes of Thor were often viewed in a better light than other gods. When it came to those gods and goddesses the others held a negative view of, Hel was among the most prominent. Her realm was the underworld and she was seen as the Goddess of Death.
All of the 1 oz Norse God Series Hel Silver Rounds are available to purchase today in brand-new condition from the Anonymous Mint. The rounds are packaged individually in plastic flips.
The obverse field of the Norse God Series Hel Silver Round includes a depiction of the Goddess of Death. In this design, Hel is shown seated upon her throne within her realm in the underworld. Behind her, a ghastly see of faceless souls roams about. Hel was one of the three children of Loki and the giantess Angerboda. She was said to have stern, downtrodden looks, with one half of her body blue and the other a hue of flesh. It was Odin that cast her down into the underworld, known as Helheim. It was her duty to house the dead.
On the reverse side of 1 oz Norse God Series Hel Silver Rounds, you will find a common design element feature on all rounds in the series. Here, a Valkyrie rider is shown upon her powerful steed with her winged helmet, shield, and sword. The Valkyrie were warrior maidens chosen by Odin to be the Choosers of the Slain, overseeing the battles of mankind and determine who lived and who died.
