On the obverse side of Nordic Creatures Nidhogger Silver Rounds, you will find the terrifying dragon. He resides in the grimmest, lowest place on Earth, according to Norse mythology. Deep beneath Hel in a realm known as Niflheim, Nidhogger gnaws at the roots of the World Tree and attempts to bring destruction to the world. Were it not for the roots of the World Tree holding him deep in the belly of the Earth, Nidhogger would be free to bring destruction to the world.
The reverse face of the 1 oz Nidhogger Silver Round comes with a depiction of Yggdrasil, the Norse term that refers to The World Tree. Here, it is seen in its full beauty as a mighty deer stands near the trunk of the tree. As an omen of the potential doom that lies trapped beneath, a serpent is depicted slithering along the ground at the base of the trunk. The roots of the World Tree extend in three primary directions: Hel and Niflheim, the land of the frost giants, and the land of humans.
