It is often said that there are two inevitabilities in life: death and taxes. While you might be able to cheat or avoid the taxman, you’ll never be able to outrun death. Memento Mori-themed designs capture the inevitability of death with skeletons reminding us that though we’re alive today, tomorrow could be a different story. Right now, 1 oz Memento Mori Silver Rounds are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:

The use of the phrase Memento Mori rose alongside the growth of Christianity beginning in the 2nd century. The phrase translates as “remember death” or “remember that you will die.” As Christianity grew and spread around the world, the concept of Heaven, Hell, and saving one’s soul in the afterlife also gave rise to the use of the term Memento Mori.
Obverse design elements in the 1 oz Memento Mori Silver Round release include the image of a laughing skeleton. The skeleton reminds us that death will get the last laugh at some point, claiming the souls of all. Around the outer edge of the design field, you will notice four hourglass designs and three additional skulls. At the bottom of the rim, “Memento Mori” is inscribed.
Reverse imagery on the 1 oz Memento Mori Silver Round focuses on the logo of the Anonymous Mint. The mint logo is a clever riff on the heraldic eagle of the United States. Rather than a bald eagle, the logo uses an owl in the center with a crown that has the initials “A.M.” The owl clutches arrows in its talons and has inscriptions of the weight, purity, and metal content below. Above the crowned owl are 13 stars arranged in a stacked arch of three stars, four stars, and six stars.
The Anonymous Mint developed the new Memento Mori 1 oz silver rounds in this issue with two options available. Lead coin designer Julie Lindquist spearheaded the series with low mintages offered in the antique version and these bullion issues.
