Medusa was one of the most frightful beasts of Greek mythology. With a head full of serpents for hair and green skin, a mere glance of her eyes meeting your own would turn you to stone in an instant. Many men met this terrible fate while trying to defeat the beast that became known as Medusa. However, her story starts out in a much different manner.
While Medusa is known to both Greek and Roman followers of mythology, but it is Roman mythology that speaks of her origins as a beautiful maiden. One of the three Gorgon sisters, children of the ancient marine gods Phorcys and Ceto, Medusa was a maiden who served as a priestess for Athena (Greek) or Minerva (Roman). After she was seduced by Poseidon into having an affair in one of Athena’s temples, Roman myth suggests Athena exacted her revenge by transforming the beautiful maiden into a hideous beast no man would ever look upon lovingly.
Medusa’s bust is featured in front-facing relief on the obverse of 1 oz Medusa Silver Rounds. With a steely gaze, Medusa looks straight forward as you hold the round and her hair of snakes snarls around on her head. There is an ancient Greek border design element around the edge of the design field.
The logo of the Anonymous Mint is depicted in the reverse design of Medusa Silver Rounds. For its logo, the Anonymous Mint offers up a wise twist on the heraldic eagle of the United States. There is a cluster of 13 stars above the design, with a front-facing owl flexing its wings as it clutches three arrows. A crown is above the head of the owl with the initials “A.M.” The mint name is found at the bottom.
These 1 oz Medusa Silver Rounds are available to you with proof-like visuals, indicating the presence of frosting on the design and a mirror-like background field. The rounds are completed with a stunning layer of 24-karat gold across the entire obverse and reverse. The rounds come with an individual plastic capsule.
