The Canadian Maple Leaf is one of the world’s most sought-after bullion coins. Available in bullion and proof, these coins are often hard to find but immensely desired by collectors and investors alike. Fortunately, there are numerous private mints that replicate the design on more affordable copper rounds. Today, JM Bullion offers the 1 oz Maple Leaf Copper Round in brand-new condition.
Round Highlights:
The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Canadian Maple Leaf coin for the first time in 1979 as a gold bullion coin. At that point in history, the only bullion gold coin available was the South African Krugerrand. A boycott of South Africa’s apartheid system blocked the Krugerrand from reaching markets outside the continent.
As a result, the Royal Canadian Mint revealed the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf as an option for investors in 1979, making it just the second gold bullion coin in the world. The program expanded significantly in 1988 with the addition of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf.
The bullion coins all feature the sugar maple leaf, an official emblem of the nation of Canada, on the reverse. Each coin bears engravings that identify the nation of issue, purity, metal content, and weight.
These 1 oz Maple Leaf Copper Rounds feature the sugar maple leaf, just as it is on the Canadian coins, on the obverse face. Above it is the engraving “Canada.” On either side of the leaf, the purity of “999” is engraved. Below the design, “Fine Copper 1 Ounce AVDP.”
On the reverse you’ll find the heraldic American shield, complete with eagle’s wings emerging from either side of the shield. These copper rounds are all available in brand-new condition, and are privately minted in the United States.
