Niobium was originally known as columbium when it was first founded. Charles Hatchett, an English chemist, first reported this new metal that was similar to tantalum in 1801. For the first half-century it was known to mankind, niobium was incorrectly classified by some as being identical to tantalum. In fact, famed chemist William Hyde Wollaston, the man who discovered palladium, classified the two as identical in 1809. A German chemist by the name of Heinrich Rose helped set the record straight in 1846 by identifying niobium as a second element within tantalum ores.
All of the 1 oz Luciteria Science Niobium Square Bars in this listing are available in brand-new condition and come with sealed blistercards for shipping. The bars have sturdy, defined edges and flat surfaces with engravings on the obverse only.
For the obverse design of 1 oz Luciteria Science Niobium Square Bars, the producer features the name of the metal along with its symbol and Atomic number at the top. The weight and purity of the bar are featured in the middle of the field, with the Luciteria logo at the bottom. The reverse side of these bars is blank.
Niobium may have been discovered in the 19th century, but it was not until the early 20th century that it was used widely across various commercial sectors. Today, it is considered a very important metal in the technology industry.
