The United States Mint first released the Kennedy Half-Dollar in 1964, shortly following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The creation of this memorial coin was initially the idea of Mint Director Eva Adams, who would later collaborate with coin engraver, Gilroy Roberts, and the remaining members of the Kennedy family for its design. Upon its release, the coin was met with overwhelming public favor due to the popularity of President Kennedy. It has since remained one of the most highly collected coins. Now, JM Bullion is proud to present this special edition Kennedy Copper Round in honor of both the memorial coin and the late President.
Each Kennedy round has been produced from 1 avoirdupois ounce of 99.9% copper and is guaranteed to arrive in newly minted condition. In order to prevent any harm to their mint states, all rounds will arrive in either a protective plastic sleeve or in their original 20 piece rolls. Please be advised that although this round was fashioned after a real coin, it is not legal tender and cannot be used as actual currency.
Proudly displayed across the front of each round is the distinguished profile of JFK, which has been carefully rendered to capture every distinct feature of the president’s face. Collectors should take particular note of his hair, which was specifically altered at the request of his widow, Jackie Kennedy. The motto, “In God We Trust,” appears beneath the president’s profile, while the word “Liberty” and the coin’s original release year encircle his portrait near the round’s edge.
Although the front side of the round takes great care to replicate the details of the original design, the reverse side of the coin has replaced the Great Seal of the United States with its own rendition of the heraldic eagle. In its depiction, the eagle appears with its wings fully extended and its opposing talons clasped around an olive branch and a set of arrows. It wear a striped shield across its chest as a form of armor. Inscribed directly above and beneath the eagle are the round’s purity and weight respectively.
