Americans have a long tradition of honoring those who have given their lives in military service to the country. One of the most significant ways this is done is through Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday in May. This federal holiday, originally known as Decoration Day, began after the Civil War and has evolved into a day of remembrance for all U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the armed forces.
All 1 oz In Memory of Our Fallen Heroes Silver Rounds are available with protective capsules for delivery. Each round is a proof-like specimen with frosted devices and mirror-like fields. These rounds were privately struck in the United States by the North American Mint.
In the obverse design of In Memory of Our Fallen Heroes Silver Rounds, you’ll find the mint logo and identifying hallmarks. The winged A with a round blank at the center of the letter and a coining die beneath is set at the center of the field. The name of the mint is engraved above, with the weight, purity, and metal content below.
For the reverse side of 1 oz In Memory of Our Fallen Heroes Silver Rounds, the mint features what is known as the Battlefield Cross. Also known as the Soldier’s Cross or Battle Cross, this formation of a soldier’s gear honors those who have been killed in action. The formation is made up of a soldier’s boosts with the rifle stuck into the ground (or boots) with the soldier’s helmet on top. In the United States, this became common practice during World War I as a sign of respect for those who fell in battle.
