You undoubtedly know Rudolph as the most famous reindeer of all. When he was introduced into the story of Christmas, Santa Claus, and his flying reindeer, there were only eight reindeer that led Santa’s sleigh as he zoomed around the world on Christmas Eve delivering gifts to all the girls and boys of the world.
The introduction of Rudolph came in 1939 and was created by Robert Lewis May. May wrote the story of Rudolph for Montgomery Ward department stores in Chicago, which had traditionally purchased and handed out coloring books to children at Christmas. The company wanted to introduce their own books, and May wrote the tale of Rudolph as a poem in the same meter as “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” better known as “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
All of the 1 oz Colorized Rudolph Silver Rounds ship inside of a protective plastic capsule and velvet pouch. That capsule allows you to add this silver bullion to the tree at Christmas this year, as each capsule has a loop at the top allowing for ribbon so the Rudolph Round can hang from the tree with all the other ornaments.
On the obverse of the 1 oz Colorized Rudolph Silver Round is a colorized depiction of Rudolph. The background field has dark, cold hues of a winter night that include blue and black. Rudolph stands on powdery, white snow and his figure has brown fur and antlers with a blast of white on his tail. Rudolph’s trademark red nose is vibrant and large at the end of his snout.
The reverse of all Colorized Christmas Rounds in this series feature simple engravings on a silver finish design field. The phrase “One Ounce” is engraved horizontally in the center, while the purity and metal content are inscribed below in an arch along the outer rim of the field.
